Rich Mies is a native Minnesotan who was raised in Watkins, a tiny town in the central part of the state. He grew up learning to love sports, especially baseball and basketball. Summer treks to the Twin Cities to see Killebrew, Oliva, Carew and Blyleven play at the old Met Stadium are among his happiest childhood memories.

Working as a sales manager for a national retailer, Rich had the opportunity to spend two years in the "State Of Football" (aka Florida) where he became a diehard fan of the NFL's Miami Dolphins.

From there it was on to "Basketball Country" (North Carolina and Virginia), where he fell in love with the ACC, Coach K and the Blue Devils.

Rich returned to his native Minnesota in the dead of winter 1988. He quickly realized he did NOT miss the winters, but DID miss the quality of life in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and Lutefisk. A graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a BA in Business Administration/Accounting, Rich lives in Minneapolis. During the day, he disguises as a Financial Analyst for a major entertainment retailer.

In addtition to covering the MIAC for College Sporting News, Rich serves as the Editor-in-Chief of SportsBytes, an online publication that spouts opinions on a wide range of sports happenings.
